November 14 marks the 75th anniversary of the forced deportation of Ahiska Turks from their homes in the former Soviet Union

A photography exhibition on the 75th anniversary of the exile of Ahiska Turks was opened in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The exhibition at the Soviet Occupation Museum in Tbilisi was opened with the aim of commemorating the painful days of the Turks who were exiled from their homeland 75 years ago by Josef Stalin, the leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics .

In 1944, over 92,000 Ahiska Turks, also known as Meskhetian Turks, were expelled from Georgia’s Meskheti region by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, according to the World Ahiska Turks Association. Up to 500,000 Ahiska Turks, scattered across nine countries, mark the 75th anniversary of their deportation, said the ministry.
