Trump's political advisers believe the push to reopen schools will prove popular among suburban women. But this vision is threatened by school closure announcements and polls showing concerns about in-person learning ran far deeper than previously known.
Reopening them could allow parents to return to work, Trump's advisers reasoned. Without kids in classrooms, no other area of the economy could really bounce back. Anecdotally, many aides knew parents -- and especially moms -- who felt stretched by home-schooling and child care.And many believed a focus on kids and classrooms would play well with a group of Trump voters whose support was beginning to soften: White suburban women.
Redfield recently briefed members of the White House coronavirus task force on the supplemental guidance, a person familiar with the conversion said, but the guidelines were not ready for wide distribution to the task force for a language review in time to meet the CDC's self-imposed deadline.
