Trump arrest on 34 felonies leaves former president dazed and accused (Editorial)

Former President Donald Trump appears in court for his arraignment, Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in New York. sometimes known as"Teflon Don" for his ability to emerge unscathed from scandal after scandal. But there's one thing we will never unstick from our minds: The somber, almost dazed look, of former President Donald Trump, at long last in the steely clutches of"WOW, they are going to ARREST ME," Trump shared on social media moments before walking into the courthouse.

Some argue Bragg's case is weak, a Rube Goldberg concoction of contingent offenses that the American public won't find nearly offensive enough to risk the backlash and even potential benefit to Trump's political prospects. We say that's not Bragg's problem. Leave the political strategy and public relations with the people who aren't sworn to uphold the law. Sure, prosecutors use discretion all the time in deciding which cases to pursue and which to let go.

But nor does the Constitution mention any white-glove treatment that should be afforded a former occupant of the White House in such a scenario. To be sure, the scene at the Manhattan courthouse was like no other white-collar drama.
