The New York Times reported that the president directed Bolton to ensure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would meet with Rudy Giuliani.
President Donald Trump is denying a new allegation that he coordinated a Ukraine pressure campaign with his top aides.
Still, the new revelation could change the timeline of known facts about the Ukraine scandal. It suggests that within days of former Vice President Joe Biden’s entrance into the 2020 presidential campaign, Trump tasked his top officials to work with Giuliani on an effort that Trump’s attorneys have already insisted was not a matter of U.S. foreign policy: a Biden investigation.
The reported meeting falls just before Giuliani wrote directly to Zelensky, asking for a meeting in which he intended to make an undisclosed “request” with the “full knowledge and consent” of the president.
