While the FDA has emphasized that the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine has not been proven to be safe or effective for treating or preventing the coronavirus, Trump continued to promote the use of the drug during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
State Department inspector general Steve Linick was investigating an arms sale with Saudi Arabia done through an emergency declaration by Trump last year. Engel also said Linick was investigating Secretary Mike Pompeo's misuse of a political appointee to run personal errands for him and his wife. Trump claimed he"never heard of" Linick, but moved to remove the inspector general at the request of Pompeo.
Also during the meet, Trump spoke on the country's world-leading confirmed cases of the coronavirus, which stands at 1,523,534, nearly a third of all cases globally. Trump said it was because the U.S. was doing most testing than any other country, though experts still say the country is doing about a third fewer tests than it needs to do."I don't look at that as a bad thing...it means our testing is much better," Trump said."I view it as a badge of honor.
