President Trump tweeted that Bubba Wallace should apologize over an incident in which a noose was found in the racecar driver's garage, calling it a 'hoax.' NASCAR said it 'continues to stand tall' with Wallace
WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday criticized NASCAR’S ban of the Confederate flag from its events and assailed Black racecar driver Bubba Wallace’s response to a noose found in his garage, an incident the Republican president referred to as a “hoax.”
After the noose discovery, Wallace, the only Black driver competing in the Cup Series, drew an outpouring of support from fellow drivers, who pushed him and his car to the start of the June 22 race at Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway. Last month the organization banned the Confederate flag from its race tracks and facilities as the country grappled with the death of George Floyd, a Black man who died in Minneapolis police custody, sparking protests worldwide.White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said Trump was not taking a position either way on NASCAR’s decision about the flag.
