BREAKING: President Trump announces US will issue 'emergency order' to ground all Boeing 737 Max aircraft following Ethiopian Airlines crash. Any of the planes currently in air will go to their destination and then be grounded, Trump says.
His announcement comes as the FAA has been under mounting pressure from aviation advocates and others to ban flights of the planes pending the completion of investigations into the Ethiopian Airlines crash Sunday that killed 157 people and a Lion Air accident in Indonesia in October in which 189 people perished..
Canadian Transport Minister Marc Garneau's announced earlier Wednesday that the jets would not be allowed to fly into his country's airspace followed"This safety notice is effective immediately, and will remain in place until further notice," Garneau said in a statement. Garneau said his country's requirements for new procedures and training"went above and beyond the measures directed by the United States Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing."
