This is a rare high latitude event. Still, it was merely a verification of my excellent hurricane forecast . In the August 10th News4JAX Weather Authority Insider newsletter, I illustrated where I thought tropical cyclone formation could take place.
On August 29th, before the National Hurricane Center even identified an area of low pressure in the North Atlantic, John declared during his on-air weathercast this would become Danielle and become our first hurricane of the season. On August 31st, the Weather Authority Insider Newsletter follows up on that forecast and predicts that Danielle will peek with Category 2 strength. This is a very rare condition for a tropical cyclone so far to the north.Here’s the forecast graphic from the August 10th Weather Authority Insider newsletter.
John called for it to happen within 16 days; 22 days later, Danielle formed j-u-s-t outside his forecasted development region.
