GEORGE TOWN: The High Court here has sentenced three people to three years and six months jail each after they pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of kidnapping a seven-year-old girl two years ago.

J. Nanthini, 24, K. Nithia, 27 and G. Logeswaran, 30 pleaded guilty to kidnapping the girl with the intention of wrongfully confining her on May 15,2018 at 8.40pm at Taman Jawi Indah, Nibong Tebal.

They were charged under Section 365 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of seven years jail and fine. The trio were earlier charged under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, which carries the death sentence or life imprisonment with whipping upon conviction.
