The added benefit of a new film by David Fincher is a new score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. 2023’s The Killer is no exception. Amid the carefully selected Smiths tracks that make up the titular assassin’s playlist, a spate of new compositions by Reznor and Ross provide the tempo that Fincher’s globe-hopping, sardonic thriller moves its feet to. We’ll all be able to move to Reznor and Ross’ latest this week.

Haven’t Smiths fans suffered enough? “Trent and Atticus are our first call, and if they choose to return the call, I deem myself lucky,” Fincher said during a press conference at the Venice Film Festival . “The Smiths were a post-production addition because I knew I wanted to use ‘How Soon is Now?’ and I love the idea of that song specifically as a tool for assuaging his anxiety. I liked it as a meditation tape, I thought it was amusing and funny.
