Daily News | Trea Turner endears and Phillies endure in 9-6 win over Kansas City Royals
Turner had just circled the bases after his biggest — well, surely his most clutch — swing of the season so far, a three-run home run to restore the Phillies’ lead in a 9-6 comeback victory Saturday over the Royals. He hugged Johan Rojas at home plate, high-fived teammates, and retreated to the dugout.
The Royals met at the mound to discuss how best to attack Turner. Lefty reliever Angel Zerpa had hit J.T. Realmuto with a pitch and given up a bunt single to Rojas. They decided on a first-pitch sinker. And Turner was all over it, launching it into the left-field bleachers. And it was catharsis for a star who has never struggled this much.
Turner grounded out in his first two at-bats Saturday. But he turned in a couple of stellar defensive plays at shortstop to take hits from Samad Taylor in the second inning and Salvador Perez in the fourth.
