A husband and wife running a travel agency were arrested after allegedly failing to fly out a group of umrah pilgrims, leaving them stranded and causing an estimated RM2.1 million in losses.

A husband and wife who own a travel agency were arrested in Kuala Lumpur on Monday evening in connection with allegations of failing to fly out a group of umrah pilgrims. The arrest follows a police report lodged in Sepang on Sunday night by a 39-year-old woman who claimed to have lost RM11,000 after being stranded and unable to perform umrah.

Police investigations revealed that 379 victims had dealt with the agency and were also stranded on the same date, involving an estimated total loss of RM2.1 million. The agency, which opened two years ago and moved to a three-storey building in Sepang last October, allegedly enlisted prospective pilgrims through advertisements on their TikTok app about umrah packages. Police seized several computers, passports and related documents during the raid at the agency's office in Sepang. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) confirmed that it is investigating the licensed tourism agency for the alleged breach. The suspects face charges under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating
