Alain Fleury talks bringing past experience to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts & working on his dream project in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

What do Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have in common? Each is a key entry into a large cinematic universe, each is a juggernaut of a blockbuster over two hours in length, and each benefits from the talents of some of the best-known names in the film industry.

Alain Fleury on Transformers: Rise of the Beasts & More Screen Rant: The posters behind you are great. So you’re a fan in addition to getting to work on all of these projects. You hear stories about people who, when they're kids, are running around with cameras. Was that you as you were growing up? I was looking through the credits for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and noticed you were part of a big editing team. Can you walk through how your work fits into the bigger picture on something as massive as that?

That was mainly what I was doing in Atlanta, but when we got to LA, we really got into it. I helped with some of the sound design. It was temp sound design, so we would sound design to do a first pass. Then it would go to Skywalker Ranch, which was doing our actual sound design. Basically, every day I would be working with sound, working with music, and pretty much everywhere that they needed.

It’s always been my dream to work on Black Panther. I’m a big Marvel nerd and everything; I go to Comic-Con every year and did way before I worked on these films. I remember when the first Avengers was coming out and I was sleeping in line to get into Hall H. It's crazy because I didn't even get into Hall H that year; the line was so long that by the time the panel happened, they cut it off.

I want to ask about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, too, because I am curious how VFX editing is different from picture editing. That film especially is so effects-heavy, with some really cool sequences. I still think about the music note fight all the time; it's so interesting. How different was that experience?
