The Association for Land Public Transport Transformation (TPAD) has urged the Malaysian government to eliminate the auto-accept system in e-hailing services, arguing that it unfairly disadvantages drivers. TPAD president M. Nathan stated that the system restricts drivers' freedom to choose rides and proposed implementing manual ride acceptance without conditions. TPAD presented 21 key demands to the Transport Ministry, including expanded insurance coverage for gig drivers and the integration of automatic danger zone warnings in e-hailing apps.

He proposed implementing manual ride acceptance without restrictions and ensuring any new system allows drivers to opt between manual and auto-accept options.
Nathan argued that alternative methods exist to maintain a consistent flow of passenger pickups, such as the 'Complete Job and Earn RM' initiative. He emphasized the detrimental impact of the auto-accept system on drivers, advocating for greater control over ride selections. TPAD presented a memorandum outlining their concerns regarding e-hailing and p-hailing issues to the Transport Ministry on Monday (Jan 20). During a two-hour meeting with the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan and representatives from the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), Nathan and TPAD members discussed these demands.The auto-accept issue is one of 21 key demands TPAD has raised concerning the e-hailing and p-hailing services, which they believe impose significant burdens on gig economy drivers in Malaysia. TPAD also called for expanded insurance coverage for gig drivers, encompassing both on-duty and off-duty protection, with coverage extending to third parties involved in accidents caused by drivers or delivery personnel. Furthermore, TPAD proposed integrating automatic danger zone warnings into e-hailing and p-hailing apps like Google Maps and Waze to enhance safety for both drivers and passengers. Nathan highlighted the potential benefits of their recommendations for both drivers and passengers, suggesting the installation of dash cams with voice recorders to provide evidence in case of incidents. Following the meeting, Nathan reported that the Transport Ministry assured a response to TPAD's demands within two weeks, leading to the cancellation of a planned peaceful rally at the ministry on Tuesday (Jan 21)
