The order that says employees may be punished if they communicate with Roselle Councilwoman Cynthia Johnson is “shocking and bizarre,” her attorney said.

“We currently find ourselves entangled in a legal dispute with Councilwoman Johnson, a member of our esteemed council,” acting Borough Administrator Shanel Y. Robinson wrote in a Sept. 14 email to all employees.

In Robinson’s email, obtained by NJ Advance Media on Wednesday, employees were warned there would be consequences for anyone who communicates with Johnson. “Any information that she has, whether accurate or not, that she obtains from any employee — whether it be an intern or a director — she can use that to potentially either win a lawsuit or help someone else in their lawsuit,” Jalloh said.

Johnson’s attorney, Patrick Toscano of Caldwell, responded in a letter on Wednesday to Jalloh that Robinson’s email was “shocking and bizarre,” and could be considered “indicative of witness tampering” and intimidation.
