Asia's first grandmaster and chess hall of famer Eugene Torre will play simultaneous chess exhibition matches at the City Auditorium in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental on November 10, 2023.
The simul is part of the opening day activities of the 1st Governor Henry S. Oaminal 7-in-1 Chess Festival organized by the Asenso Misamis Occidental Federated Chess Association and Rising Chess Unlimited Development Program.Tournament director Rey C. Urbiztondo said the 'Living Legend' of Philippine chess will be joined by 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Rogelio 'Joey' Antonio Jr.
The students and residents of Misamis Occidental are eager to meet and even play with GM Eugene Torre, GM Joey Antonio and IM Roderick Nava in the exhibition simul,' said Urbiztondo, an official of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and team owner of the Surigao Fianchetto Checkmates in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines and the Surigao Diamond Knights in the Philippine Chess League.
