BEIJING: Two tornadoes killed at least 10 people and injured eight others in eastern China, state media reported on Wednesday.

The first tornado hit the townships of Daxing and Nancai in the city of Suqian, in Jiangsu province, on Tuesday afternoon, state broadcaster China Central Television said. It affected 5,512 people, destroyed 137 homes, and damaged crops and pig farms. second tornado in the evening killed five people and injured four in Funing county in the city of Yancheng, about 190 kilometers southeast of Suqian. The townships of Lupu and Banhu in the county experienced torrential rain. A total of 1,364 people have been affected, an initial investigation showed.Videos posted online of the first tornado showed cars that had been tossed about, including at least one flipped onto its side, and debris swirling in the air above a several story-high building.
