Abdul Hamid Bador says police will not allow any strand of Islam other than Sunni Islam.
A member of the ‘Who is Hussain’ group in Kuala Lumpur presents Ramadan goodies to the public.
KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said police would work with religious authorities to stop a group which has been distributing leaflets seen as promoting Shia Islam. “This is irresponsible and goes against Sunni Islam,” Hamid told reporters today at a ceremony to welcome his deputy Mazlan Mansor.Hussain refers to the central figure in Shia Islam, who is also the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
Shia Islam is labeled deviant by Malaysia’s Islamic bureaucrats, and authorities have in the past raided private religious events by Shia Muslims. The group wearing black T-shirts bearing the words “Who is Hussain?” has recently distributed meals and rosary beads to members of the public in the city centre.
