Tony Abbott has given a fierce criticism of the proposed Voice to Parliament while appearing at a parliamentary inquiry into the body, despite a Labor-led push to block him from appearing.
Mr Abbott’s vocal criticism of the proposed body led to several clashes between the former member for Warringah and some members of the committee when he came before them for the in-person testimony.
Mr Abbott hit back by responding that while he understood “not everyone likes the comparison” between the two, he had aimed to make a clear point with it. Tony Abbott appeared before the parliamentary inquiry on Monday. “We’re proposing a special voice for Indigenous people but we’re not proposing a special voice for migrants,” he said. Fellow ‘No’ campaigner Warren Mundine spoke to the committee shortly after Mr Abbott, as did leading ‘Yes’ advocate Noel Pearson.
