Tom Holland has opened up about his difficult Uncharted plane stunt, and how shooting the scene in small pieces made the stunt even harder. Uncharted is an upcoming action-adventure film, adapted from the video game series of the same name. It follows Nathan Drake and his mentor Victor"Sully" Sullivan as the pair sets out on a treasure hunt to find Magellan’s gold. Uncharted is directed by Reuben Fleischer and also stars Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali, and Tati Gabrielle.
Ahead of its release, one scene in Uncharted has already caught the attention of many viewers due to its recreation of a popular scene in the original video game. The scene, shown in previous Uncharted trailers, sees Holland's Drake jumping along cargo boxes in midair. Holland has called it the hardest stunt he has ever filmed, which is understandable, considering how dangerous the action sequence was.
"It took months to film that. We had these things called cougar arms, which are like the robotic arms you see used to make cars… and then they would attach these big boxes to the robot in a row and then they shot it vertically. So most of the sequence was shot that way so we could simulate the notion that we were flying through the air. And basically all I had to do was hang onto these boxes and make my way up.
The physical demands and the danger of the machinery used in this Uncharted scene seem like more than enough to add difficulty to an already bold stunt. However, the fact that the physical labor and machinery had to be kept up over the course of months makes Holland's work even more impressive. Stunts are of course nothing new to Holland, who portrays Peter Parker in the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy.
Details of the physically demanding and time consuming stunts for Uncharted is bound to raise anticipation as the film hits theaters. Early reviews for Uncharted have been fairly mixed, with critics suggesting that the action sequences may take up too much of the film's time, leaving little room for a developed plotline. However, despite these early reviews, it remains to be seen how general audiences respond to Uncharted and how it will perform in the box office.
