Acting Umno president tells Akmal Nasir that Umno's bank accounts are frozen and it cannot return funds from 1MDB like the PKR Youth chief has urged him to do.
Putrajaya froze Umno’s bank accounts under the Anti-Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 in June last year.
He added that Mohamad, better known as Tok Mat, should set a good example or risk being confined to the former prime minister’s shadow. “If the funds that were received by Umno are proven to have come from 1MDB, how can Umno return these funds when Umno’s funds have been frozen by the government?” Mohamad, meanwhile, urged Akmal not to speak without at least some knowledge of the “basics” in law and the facts.
