When the Triceratons invaded Earth, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles won their greatest victory, but sadly it's one they'll never remember, as their minds were subsequently wiped. Like most things TMNT, this major win is more tragic than it seems.
While saving the world is usually a cause for celebration, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles greatest victory proves they’re way more tragic than fans realize. The Triceratons are possibly the greatest threat the Turtles have ever faced. They are an aggressive alien species who fly across the cosmos taking over worlds in their path.
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 by Jim Lawson, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael are in the middle of an all-out war with the invading Triceraton army. The TMNT aligned themselves with like-minded allies involved in a military weapons development program called DARPA including one man named Louis Braunza. The Turtles and their allies fought off the Triceratons and ended up saving the world, but the cost of that ended up being incredibly tragic.
While the Turtles being forced to forget having saved the world is tragic in its own right, the situation was even more so for Leo especially. At the end of the issue, Leonardo abruptly woke up after being asleep on Casey’s couch after dreaming about the events he and the other Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were forced to forget. Leo thought the dream was real, but the longer he stayed awake the more the memories of the dream began to fade until it was out of his mind entirely.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles being forced to forget about their greatest victory is tragic in and of itself but it is more than just tragic, it is negatively impactful to the team. The Triceratons are a very real threat for the Turtles, and the fact that they got so close to taking over the world but the Turtles can’t remember that even happening hurts their growth as a team.
