Telekom Malaysia (TM) has reaffirmed its interest in contributing to the development of Malaysia’s 5G network, despite its collapsed deal with Digital

Telekom Malaysia has reaffirmed its interest in contributing to the development of Malaysia’s 5G network, despite its collapsed deal with Digital Nasional Bhd . The telecommunications group has submitted a proposal to establish Malaysia's second 5G network infrastructure and aims to be a key partner, whether through direct involvement in the new 5G network or as part of the broader 5G ecosystem.

Last Friday, TM announced that its agreement to acquire a stake in DNB was terminated following its request for additional time to secure shareholders’ approval was declined. The company had asked the latter for an extension last month which was not granted, and a subsequent appeal was also unsuccessful.

Despite this setback, TM remains committed to supporting Malaysia's digital growth. The company's managing director and group CEO Amar Huzaimi Md Deris emphasised that TM would continue to ensure the nation benefits from enhanced connectivity and digital services. “We would like to reiterate that we will continue to play a key role in supporting the nation by developing the ecosystem, ensuring that the nation benefits from the connectivity and digital services,' he told reporters following TM’s second quarter results briefing yesterday. “We have submitted the proposal for the AIP , the process that is conducted by MCMC .”

Huzaimi also revealed that TM had requested additional time from DNB to facilitate “some of the outstanding matters that the group has to address'. However, he declined to provide further details on these matters.
