An investigation into the Titan submersible disaster will analyse recordings between the doomed sub and its mothership, as authorities piece together the cause of the deadly implosion which killed five men.
The United States Coast Guard announced on Sunday that it had convened a Marine Board of Investigation to probe the implosion one week after the tragedy captured immense public interest.
Meanwhile, investigators from Canada's Transportation Safety Board will be reviewing recently acquired voice recordings from the Titan's mother ship that carried the vessel and its five occupants. All five passengers – OceanGate Inc CEO Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, French mariner Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Sulaiman – were killed.
A voyage data recorder stores audio from the ship’s bridge, similar to a black box used in airplanes. In the days following the tragedy, OceanGate has been besieged by allegations the sub was not sufficiently seaworthy or had a flawed design.
