The SA Banking Risk Information Centre (Sabric) reminds us that, while online shopping has grown in popularity, it has created lucrative opportunities for criminal scammers to trick you into paying for goods you won’t receive. Sabric cautions users who shop online to apply common sense. This includes shopping at reputable retailers and avoiding unknown ones; trust your gut – if a special seems too good to be true, don’t proceed with the transaction; and never save your bank card details on websites. According to Kaspersky, they’ve identified over 30 million phishing attacks targeting online shoppers globally, and over 43.5% of websites were used as a lure for all attacks
