Christmas is a time for giving, getting together and enjoying time together. But it’s also definitely a time for eating. Most of us overindulge over the festive period, between Christmas dinners, selection boxes, fry ups and more. This is totally fine and we should all enjoy ourselves, but it can leave us with a sore tummy sometimes - especially for anyone with conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and other gastrointestinal issues.

Thankfully, Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr Deirdre O’Donovan at the Blackrock Clinic has shared some of her top tips to keep your tummy happy over Christmas. “Our diet tends to change quite a lot over the holiday season, and it’s quite common to eat more than normal and to indulge in more alcohol,” she said. “While all of that is part of the enjoyment and relaxation of Christmas, it can cause problems for people with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and other medical issues
