Tina Turner is getting all dolled up. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is the latest superstar to get a Barbie doll in her likeness.
Almost 40 years after Tina Turner made one of the biggest comebacks in music history, she’s getting all dolled up.Toymaker Mattel released the limited-edition doll this week to celebrate Turner’s 1984 song “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”
The Terry Britten and Graham Lyle-written track, which became the former Ike & Tina Turner frontwoman’s first and only Billboard Hot 100 chart topper, was also the title of the 1993 biopic starring Oscar nominees Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne. The Nutbush, Tenn., native, whose given name is Anna Mae Bullock, had a career breakthrough with the song, which ended up taking home three awards at the 1985 Grammy Awards.“What’s Love Got to Do with It” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2020, Norwegian DJ and producer Kygo released a remix of the song for a new era.
