Dianggarkan lebih 1.3 juta tikus di New York City dijangkiti Covid-19.
NEW YORK: Penyelidik di Amerika Syarikat mendedahkan berjuta-juta tikus yang berada di seluruh bandar raya New York boleh dijangkiti virus Covid-19.
Menurut Sky News, pasukan berkenaan mendapati tikus berkenaan terbukti terdedah kepada pelbagai varian virus Covid-19 termasuk tahap jangkitan yang tinggi di saluran udara atas dan bawah mereka. Penyelidik di Universiti Missouri itu juga melihat sama ada tikus New York boleh dijangkiti dan menjangkiti, memandangkan sejumlah besar haiwan tersebut ditemukan bersarang di kebanyakan rumah dan bangunan di bandar raya itu.
“Untuk pengetahuan terbaik kami, ini adalah salah satu kajian pertama menunjukkan varian SARS-CoV-2 yang menjadi punca penyebaran Covid-19 boleh menyebabkan jangkitan dalam populasi tikus liar di kawasan bandar utama AS,” kata Ketua Pengarang laporan kajian tersebut, Dr. Henry Wan. Dengan kebenaran pegawai tempatan, penyelidik menjalankan dua operasi untuk memerangkap tikus di dalam dan sekitar lokasi sistem kumbahan bandar, kebanyakannya di Brooklyn.Ahli biologi mengumpul dan memproses sampel daripada 79 tikus yang ditangkap antara September hingga November 2021 dan mendapati 13 daripadanya dijangkiti Covid-19.Hasil kajian semakan tersebut diterbitkan dalam jurnal American Society for Microbiology.
