Though Trump’s efforts ultimately failed, it ignited a flurry of concerns regarding national security and drew attention to the company’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party. It’s a rare case in which there is bipartisan support on regulation.
After more than three years of trying to get TikTok in trouble, it looks like Zuckerberg is finally getting his wish. The hearing was a rare public appearance for Chew, who has been in the top post at TikTok for two years after former CEOThe hearing itself was a mess. The members of Congress were aggressive and rarely let Chew finish a sentence unless he responded with a “yes” or a “no.
When it comes to a TikTok ban specifically, a surprising number of Americans seem to agree that TikTok should be banned in the U.S.by the Washington Post, 41% of U.S. adults support a TikTok ban, while 34% oppose a ban. However, among the daily TikTok users, that number falls to just 17% supporting a ban of the app in the U.S.
