TikTok Australia has argued the popular social media app is being singled out amid a push to see it removed from government devices, downplaying concerns that the Chinese Communist Party can access user data.

Calls to ban the app, which is owned by Chinese firm Bytedance, have increased over concerns that data is being collected and sent back to Beijing prompting serious security concerns.

“I personally have no problem if we are looking at the breadth of social media applications and media applications if they weren’t to be on government devices,” he said. Also appearing on Sky News Australia was shadow home affairs minister Karen Andrews, who described it as “appalling” that the government had not yet banned the app.

President Biden was hosting the Small Business Administration's Women's Business Summit at the White House on Monday where he made the jokes and then addressed the tragic shooting. 'He did eventually address the issue, but really, surely he would know the gravity of the situation and jokes about ice cream and good looking kids in the audience...' Ms Panahi said. 'He needs the autocue, he needs the cards, he needs so much direction.'
