David Harbour teases something BIG is coming to the MCU with Thunderbolts 👀 'It’ll be funny, it’ll be weird, it’ll be action. And then we’re also going to drop a bomb, which is cool.'
David Harbour has teased that Marvel's Thunderbolts movie will drop a major bomb for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thunderbolts is an upcoming addition to the MCU's Phase 5, and is set to be released on July 26, 2024. Based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name, Thunderbolts is set to bring together major MCU characters, with Bucky Barnes , Yelena Belova , Red Guardian , John Walker , Taskmaster , Ghost , and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine already set to appear.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with io9/Gizmodo, Harbour teased that Thunderbolts is going to drop a bomb for the MCU. While there hasn't been any indication on the exact plot of the film as of yet, Harbour says that Thunderbolts is going to be funny, strange, and action-packed – and that it'll change the MCU moving forward. "I’ve loved Wyatt [Russell], and Sebastian and Julia’s characters throughout the universe. What [director Jake Schreier] wants to do with Florence’s character is very interesting and how I factor into how we develop our relationship is very interesting. And then when you see what Jake and Eric Pearson is trying to fashion, it’s really clever... So you have this movie that’s, you know, kind of ragtag. It’ll be funny, it’ll be weird, it’ll be action.
Unlike other MCU teams, like the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Thunderbolts are set to be the first team of ex-antagonists. While some of them have since become heroes in their own right, like Bucky Barnes and Yelena Belova, others were only given brief glimpses of redemption, like Taskmaster and Ghost.
As Harbour has said before, the Thunderbolts are "a bunch of misfits and outcasts and losers and people who don't really live up to the super in superhero." Though much of the same can be said for a team like the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Thunderbolts are coming into the MCU with heavier backstories and histories of antagonism.
