IPOH: Three men were arrested after a 40-minute car chase with the police from here to Chenderiang, Tapah.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the three men are in their 20s and added that they fled after being stopped by the police in Simpang Pulai at about 10.30am, sparking off a chase.
“The driver was seen using a mobile phone, and so the police waved him down to stop but he sped off. The car also rammed a roadblock near the Rural Transformation Centre in Gopeng and drove towards Kampar, ” he said during a press conference at the district police station here on Wednesday . He said that police personnel were forced to fire three shots at the car’s tyres as the man was driving recklessly and the police feared that he could endanger other motorists.
“The car skidded and crashed into a lamp post at Jalan Chenderiang Lama where we managed to arrest the three men, ” he added.“All also had previous records for drugs. One of them is even wanted for a sex-related offence on a child, ” he said, adding that all three would be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 27 of the Police Act.
