Five killed in early morning highway crash in Pittsburg
Five people, including three juveniles, were killed early Thursday morning, when a wrong-way vehicle collided with another one on state Highway 4, the California Highway Patrol said.
The wreck happened about 12:10 a.m., according to the CHP. All five people were declared dead at the scene. They were not identified immediately. According to CHP spokesman Ofc. Adam Lane, a Hyundai got onto Highway 4 going east in the westbound lanes. It crashed into a Ford SUV just west of Loveridge Road, he said.
The Hyundai had all three juveniles in it, along with the driver, Lane said. Only the driver was in the Ford SUV. The CHP diverted all westbound traffic off of Highway 4 at Loveridge Road until 3:30 a.m. The CHP then opened two lanes until about 4 a.m., when they opened the remaining three and ended a Sig Alert for severe traffic. This is a developing story.
