In celebration of Earth Day at Discovery Green this weekend, kids can explore an electric car petting zoo, conduct science experiments about water and contribute to a public art project.
This weekend’s free event is designed to help families “start to get an idea of what it takes to care for and maintain that water that they love to play in.”
Elsewhere, local artist Andrea Venson, known as Drea the Artist, will lead nature-themed art workshops, where kids will learn how they can protect their planet by contributing to a larger artwork. In addition to meeting people who protect nature such as firefighters, park rangers and wildlife rehabilitators, kids can interact with Smokey Bear from Texas A&M Forest Service.
Local storyteller Leona Hoegsberg offers an immersive, engaging experience for kids, “getting the children to join in with her, which they seem to enjoy,” says Memorial Park Conservancy’s Liz Jordan.
