7NEWS understands Stanley Turvey was critically injured during the major police operation to arrest him.

After Turvey fled on Monday, police pursued him but their car lost control and rolled, leading to officers suffering minor injuries.

Turvey then stopped at a random home in the nearby town of Youanmite, where he forced a man to drive him to Finley across the NSW border.Police released a photo of Stanley Turvey, who remains on the run.Turvey was then believed to be travelling in a stolen white Toyota ute on Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted a woman and stole the vehicle at Yarrawonga about 10am.

The stolen ute was recovered by police on Tuesday afternoon in Fraser Street at Tatura, southwest of Shepparton.
