Thousands Of Migrant Children Have Alleged Sexual Abuse While In US Custody

Unaccompanied migrant children have reported thousands of alleged sexual assaults while in the custody of the United States government in the last four years, according to documents made public Tuesday.

Over the past four years, 4,556 allegations of sexual abuse were reported to HHS' Office of Refugee Resettlement , and 1,303 were made to the Justice Department, the documents show. “These HHS documents detail a staggering number of sexual assaults on unaccompanied children in their custody,” said Deutch in a statement. “Clearly this administration is not equipped to keep these children safe inside their facilities.”. An HHS spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
