PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Mengkibol assemblyman Chew Chong Sin and former Umno Youth leader Razlan Rafii came under fire for making inflammatory comments that could undermine peace and harmony.
“Those who are not sensitive to other people’s feelings and religious beliefs are not qualified to be community leaders and they should not choose a career path in politics,” said Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism president R.S. Mohan Shan.
Chew put himself in hot water after relating Umno-PAS ties to the shooting rampage at two mosques in New Zealand on Friday.Mohan said that whether or not Chew retracted his comments and apologised was immaterial.Mohan also chided Razlan for adding fuel to the fire. Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong also reprimanded Chew although the latter had since retracted his comments and apologised multiple times.“The damage is done and therefore I reprimanded Chew for his insensitivity,” he said in a statement. He also expressed regret for hurting the feelings of the Muslim community.
