COLUMBIA S.C. -- Slowpoke drivers who plug up passing lanes on highways soon could face much steeper fines in South Carolina for their transgressions.
The law took effect in August 2021. Officers began writing tickets charging a civil fine of $25 in November, andThe state also erected signs on the state’s interstates every 35 miles warning “slower traffic” to move right.when the new legislature convened this month. That law now is moving through the South Carolina Senate. It cleared a subcommittee on Tuesday. The full Transportation Committee was to begin deliberations on Wednesday.
Republican state Sen. Wes Climer drives about 70 miles on Interstate 77 to commute from his home in Rock Hill, north of Columbia, to the Statehouse.
