Al Ewing's new Thor series, Immortal Thor, has only just kicked off its run, but it is already reinventing the cosmology of the Marvel Universe, exploring the God of Thunder's relationship to his true mother, the Elder God Gaea, and promising to take the character to an entirely new power level, as he declares himself "Thor the Gaea-Son."

Thor Embraces His Heritage As The Gaea-Son In Immortal Thor #1 In the debut issue of Immortal Thor, the God of Thunder is attacked by Toranos, an Elder God of the Utgard-Realm, a towering cosmic deity with powers that reflect, and seemingly far surpass, those of Thor himself.
Thor's True Heritage Makes Him Exponentially More Powerful Not only does Gaea appear in Immortal Thor #1, the Avengers declares himself, "Thor the Gaea-son, who defends the Midgard lands." Gaea's status as an being of the Utgard-Realm brings with it the truly stunning revelation in the issue: Thor is half-god, half-Utgard-God.
The introduction of an order of existence above that which has previously been seen in the Marvel Universe is a major swing for Al Ewing, writer of Immortal Thor, and Marvel – but it is in line with the company's desire to push the scope of its cosmos, which is already full of gods, interstellar empires, and multiple realities, even further. Interestingly, Immortal Thor #1 also contains a bonus page, written by Jonathan Hickman, entitled 'WHO ARE THE G.O.D.S.
