Thompson snaps Hoover’s 11-game win streak to earn its fifth consecutive trip to play for a state title. alpreps

The Warriors came into the Hoover Met on Friday and dominated Hoover from start to finish, winning 40-10. It was a complete reversal of Hoover’s 9-0 regular-season win four weeks ago, and the second straight year that Thompson has lost in the regular season to Hoover, but rebounded to win in the playoff semifinals.

“We came out here with the mentality to dominate and that’s exactly what we did,” Thompson defensive lineman Peter Woods said. “We were being doubted by everybody. People in our own city were doubting us. We couldn’t let that get in-house. Our coaches came up with an out-of-this-world game plan for us to execute on defense and it showed up.”

The Warriors held the Bucs to minus-2 rushing yards, and it took the Bucs’ last drive to even get that. Woods and the Warriors linemen lived in the backfield, recording eight tackles for loss.
