.ThomBrowneNY debuted his first art installation at a champagne-filled dinner in Miami.

but with better clothes and Champagne in lieu of beer: You go there and everyone knows your name, or at least it feels like they do. The designer and his uniformed team have a knack for making each event warm and friendly in a “when you’re here, you’re family” kind of way. The New York–based label’s welcoming attitude traveled all the way down to the humid grounds of Miami at the Moore Building in the city’s design district.

After guests had clinked their glasses, they headed upstairs to enjoy dinner, which was prepared by famed chef Brad Kilgore. Throughout the evening five different Krug Champagnes would be served, and Erivo would perform songs matching the feeling of the bubbly. But before anything kicked off, Browne made a heartfelt speech to the crowd and spoke about family, Krug, and the exhibit. He also called out Kurkova, who was dressed in a skirt set from resort 2020.

In his speech Browne also called out Erivo, who looked otherworldly in a gray duchesse satin sleeveless dress worn over a tulle shirtdress from pre-fall 2019. She also carried Browne’s Hector dog bag. Browne and Erivo go back to the 2017 Met gala, when she attended as Browne’s guest. Since then they have remained close. “He is the kindest being ever, and he understands my whimsical nature when it comes to fashion,” said Erivo.

During the dinner it rained. It’s Miami, so that was expected. One guest, who had just gotten a blowout, quipped: “We’ll be even closer after seeing everyone’s natural hair.” For a few minutes the guests were shuffled back into the insides of the Moore to wait out the mini storm. But upon returning the break was all quickly forgotten. Erivo got onstage and performed a soul-tugging rendition of Etta James’s “Stormy Weather.” It was nothing short of captivating.
