A great play AND everyone was ok!
As it came off the rim, it bounced high and landed towards the right wing, just short of the 3-point line. Mitchell, who wasn’t boxed out by his defender Josh Hart, was clocking it’s trajectory though. As soon as it came off the rim, Mitchell headed to his right, and got a hand on the ball, saving it and flinging it behind him just before it went out of bounds and Mitchell stepped on the sideline.
Mitchell was helped back onto the floor, and while he came up with a slight limp in the immediate aftermath of his crash landing, he was uninjured.Of the Cavs’ key players, Mitchell is by far the one with the most playoff experience. He’s played in the postseason in all six years he’s been in the league now. Compare that to Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Isaac Okoro who are playing in their first ever playoffs.
But the hope, going forward, as the Cavs work to dig their way out of a 1-0 hole in a best-of-seven series, is that the plays like that help set the tone going forward for a Cleveland team that, at times, especially early, looked caught off-guard by the level of physicality the Knicks brought.
