Sarah Ferguson will step in to help her ex-husband the Duke of York foot the bill for AUD $3.8 million in urgent repairs to the Royal Lodge.

A friend of the Duchess of York told the Mirror that Prince Andrew has always supported her during tough times and the mother-of-two is keen to return the favour.

"But it is more than that, this is about Andrew’s pride. Andrew has always stood by Sarah throughout her various past failures and she sees this as her chance to do the same."Her finances and the Duke’s are completely separate and it would be wrong to say she can shoulder this on her own, but she has always sought to pay her way as far as she can."

The 63-year-old is understood to have already forked out $380,000 over the summer for repairs to the mansion’s roof.
