Houston Chronicle readers woke up to some disappointing news on this day in 1994.
Oiler quarterback and fan favorite Warren Moon was traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a fourth-round draft pick in that year's NFL draft and a conditional third-round pick in 1995.
Moon had led the Oilers to the playoffs for seven years in a row, the longest streak in the NFL at the time, John McClain wrote. In other front-page news, abortion was one issue dividing the candidates for Harris County judge. Specifically, the issue was over whether the county's public hospitals should perform the procedure.
That year, Robert Eckels and Vince Ryan — both experienced government officials — were squaring off in the general election to replace longtime County Judge Jon Lindsay. Eckels would win in November.
