“Sadly, this is just one example of a rash of shootings, violent acts and random gunfire,” said community leader Sharon Evans-Brooks. “We have reached a crisis and critical tipping point in the history of our celebrated, historic neighborhood… Enough is enough.”
After a violent incident at a bar or club, city officials should suspend the establishment’s permit until after an investigation is complete, Evans-Brooks said. On Monday, Turner told the dozens of people who gathered for the news conference at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church that the city plans to mandate cameras for certain businesses and give police officers the resources they need to help solve crimes, among other measures. It requires a holistic approach to tackle crime, he said.
