This couple was looking to buy their first house together in the north Phoenix area of Desert Ridge. Would they pick an existing home or a new build?
After Bri Baragar sold her Avondale home in 2021, she and her husband, Caleb, couldn’t find anything on the market, so they moved into an apartment near the Mayo Clinic Hospital in north Phoenix. But after living in the apartment for more than a year, the couple knew it was time for them to purchase their first home together.
They were looking to stay within the price range of $700,000 to $800,000 and had their sights set on the Desert Ridge area of north Phoenix. They preferred to have a single-level home with at least three bedrooms. They also wanted a bathtub. A pool was a dealbreaker. The Baragars connected with Delaney Rotta, a real estate agent with Launch Powered by Compass.
Caleb and Bri looked at a new build subdivision in Desert Ridge and were enticed by the idea of being the first owners of a home, said Caleb. The 2,288-square-foot home checked off their size requirement, and the kitchen had a modern look with quartz countertops and white tile backsplash. It was two stories, and the backyard had a pool, which would be maintenance that the Baragars didn’t want. They also weren't thrilled that the house had a more traditional layout, with a living area and a formal sitting room.Originally listed at $850,000, the home was $50,000 over their price range.Metro Phoenix eviction actions climbed in April.
The busy road behind the Aviano home was a deterrent for the couple, and with the renovations that the property needed, the Baragars weren’t willing to pay that high of a price.
