A 26-year-old woman killed Monday night was the mother of three young children who witnessed her shooting death. “They saw everything,’’ said the victim's mother. “I have to put them in counseling because they saw it and they’re confused.”

A 26-year-old woman killed Monday night was the mother of three young children who witnessed her shooting death.

Raven Teaire Thompson, 24, is charged with capital murder in Morton’s slaying. Thompson is the girlfriend of the father of Morton’s children. On Monday night, Morton went to Kingston to drop off her three children – ages 7, 5 and 2 – with their father. Their agreed custody arrangement was for Morton to keep the kids one week at a time, and their father to keep them one week at a time.

He came to the car, got the first 2 out and asked Morton why the baby didn’t have on any shoes. Morton was on the phone with her best friend, but all of the sudden the phone disconnected.“She was looking toward passenger’s side and the girl shot her in the side of the head, from the rear driver’s side window,’’ she said. “I think he had got baby out and she was driving off and ran into the pole.”

“She was very, very book smart. She had a promising future,’’ Carter said, “but she was a free spirit.”
