On the second Saturday of each month, Away From The Numbers, a post-punk DJ collective, transforms the trailer park-esque bar into an ‘80s British nightclub.

Curators Gabe Mendoza and Sam Ramirez, two Latinos who grew up in DIY communities listening to new wave and punk hardcore, knew they wanted something more than a DJ night. Ramirez, a Fort Worth native, was DJing Thursday nights at the former Fallout Lounge in Exposition Park, known for its obscure sounds, when he was offered an upgrade to a Saturday night slot. He partnered with Mendoza, a well-known DJ from South Oak Cliff, with a vision to build community.

“We wanted it to be less segregated. We wanted a place [for] goth kids, punk kids, mod kids, skinheads and all this music everybody appreciates,” Ramirez said. “We wanted to create a spot where they could all congregate and enjoy the same music without divide.”
