The bill, called the Respect for Marriage Act, passed the Senate last week and is now headed to President Joe Biden's desk for a signature. One argument for voting against a same-sex marriage bill in 2022 — according to many Republicans at least — is that, in their opinion, same-sex marriage is not something the federal government should have a stance on. Others say there's no need to for such a bill.

Michelle Steel and Rep. David Valadao . Reps. Calvert, Garcia, Issa, Obernolte and Valadao voted for the Respect for Marriage act. Reps. Conway, Kim, LaMalfa, McCarthy, McClintock and Steel voted against it.
