Despite seeing the First Order's defeat through to the end, Chewbacca's sequel trilogy story is more tragic than any other original Star Wars hero.
The Star Wars sequel trilogy was bittersweet as it showed many of the heroes from the original trilogy give their life to help defeat the First Order, but no one character’s story is more tragic than Chewbacca’s. While it was wonderful to see the likes of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo grace the big screen again, Chewie was the one who had the most screentime of all the original trilogy characters. Unfortunately for the Wookiee, that time involved a lot of tragedy.
Chewbacca Sacrificed Time With His Family For The Solos & Skywalkers Chewbacca has a family on the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk, but he sacrificed years of his life to spend time with his best friends Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa. Wookiees have a longer lifespan than humans, meaning Chewbacca is older than he looks in the movies; he's 190 by the time of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and roughly 200 in the original trilogy.
